Despite my efforts it’s useless to snooze,
Nearly impossible to clear my mind.
Staring at the walls is not what I choose,
Lingering memoirs can be so unkind.
And let’s not forget those pesky nightmares,
Another reason why I cannot doze.
Disrupting my sleep with a million scares,
Compounded since I can’t breathe through my nose
Because my mind is constantly racing,
Events of the day wander through my brain.
Each daily happening I am tracing,
It’s no wonder I am somewhat insane.
My body yearning for a good night’s sleep,
While I pray to the Lord, my soul to keep.
“We are such stuff as dreams are made on; and our little life is rounded with a sleep.” ~ William Shakespeare
